Chelsea Football Club is a football team that plays in the top division of place football, Premier League. They are based in London, England and were initially formed in 1905. Chelsea is one of the very few football clubs to have spent most of its history in the top division of English football. They have been reasonably successful over the years, but the club took an entirely new dimension in 2003 when it was taken over by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Even though they had won a number of trophies before the arrival of the Russian, they now regularly compete for every major trophy due to the influx of the billionaire’s money.

Royal blue is the colour of Chelsea, and very few clubs have this as their traditional colour. The club’s home shirt is predominantly dominated by blue colour that has sporadic occurrences of white. The away shirt is usually chosen in the yellow colour, while the third kit will be featuring dark navy blue. The 1955 league championship was the first major victory for the club, although they had won a few other titles before that. Despite winning the league championship in 1955, another championship title took a long time to arrive.

In fact, it took the club nearly 50 years to achieve the same feat. They did so in 2004 when they captured the Premier League title under new manager José Mourinho. It was followed up with another Premier League title the next year to firmly reiterate that Chelsea were one of the big boys. In claiming the Premier League title, Chelsea became only the fourth team in the division to have won the prestigious title. The other clubs that have won the title include Manchester United, Arsenal, and Blackburn Rovers.

The club play their home matches at Stamford Bridge, which has a capacity of 41,841 people. Many ideas have been floated for the improvement of the capacity of the stadium, but most of it has been rendered impossible due to the location of the stadium in the heart of London. Currently, Chelsea enjoy an average gate attendance of around 41,435 people, with plenty more on the waiting list due to the popularity of the club.

The club has now won four championships titles, with three of them coming in the Premier League era. This in addition to the number of FA Cups that the club has won. They have so far won an impressive six FA Cups, which is impressive even by the high standards set by clubs. The FA Cup is joined in the trophy cabinet by trophies like the four Football League Cups, four FA Charity Shields, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup. Notable players from the past includes the likes of Ron Harris, and Peter Bonetti, while the list also extends towards present players like Frank Lampard, and John Terry. Even though the club has not won the Champions League, it has taken part in the 2008 final in Moscow where it lost to Manchester United.
