European champions Chelsea have made Inter Milan striker RomeluLukaku their number one target in this summer’s transfer window in their bid to sign a quality striker after failing to lure ErlingHaaland from German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund to the club. The Telegraph revealed that Belgian international Lukaku could return to Stamford Bridge in a £100m deal this summer and that Manchester United could bag around £5m from the deal in a bittersweet situation.
Lukaku spent two years at Old Trafford before sealing a £74m transfer to Inter Milan in 2019 after failing to earn the trust of the Manchester United fans. The transfer included a 5% sell-on clause that would see the Red Devils earn around £5m if Chelsea are successful with their British transfer record move for Lukaku.
In two years at Inter Milan, Lukaku has grown to become one of the most lethal strikers in world football. He was the main man as Inter Milan won the league title for the first time in over ten years last season. The Belgian international formed a potent partnership with Argentine international Lautaro Martinez upfront for Inter Milan in the last two season and that partnership was a major reason for the league title last season.
Chelsea already had a bid of £85m plus Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso turned down for Lukaku.
