The race to sign Germany attacker Timo Werner has had a major twist. Barcelona have emerged as a direct competition to Liverpool for the signing of RB Leipzig star, Werner. The German international has been attracting interest from the Reds and according to reports the club are prepared to make a move for the player in the summer. But what seems to be a straight business for Liverpool has now encountered a twist, as Harvey have now registered an interest in the player.

Barcelona have identified the striking position as a priority in the summer transfer window. Luiz Suarez is not getting younger and Dembele has not lived up to the high expectations since his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. The youngster was brought in as a replacement for Neymar but injury and off field issues has been his biggest undoing at Camp Nou.

The French international is out with injury and he is not expected to return this season. Barca were given dispensation to sign a player following the injury to Ousmane Dembele. Under current rules, clubs can apply to sign a player outside of the transfer window if they have someone out injured for five or more months. The Club signed Braithwaite from Leganese in what appeared to be a quick fix.

The club has identified Werner as a possible transfer target in the summer and they are ready to do battle with Liverpool for the striker.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also emerged as a top contender for the signature of the Germany international. Frank Lampard has identified the Leipzig front-man to lead his attack next season. Lampard has manoeuvred his first season at Stamford Bridge with academy graduates and players returning from loan deals. He will have a huge transfer budget to improve his squad ahead of the 2020-2021 season.
