Rich English football club Chelsea would be required to spend more money in transfer deal if they want Steven N’zonzi, according to reports.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but his parent club Sevilla are set to offer him a new deal that would see his release clause raised far above the £27 million he is currently priced.
Daily Star report that the Europa League defending champions want the player to remain, but would get as much as possible if he were to exit the side. Club president Jose Castro told Spanish football news outlet, Don Balon:
“I know that N’Zonzi is attracting a lot of interest, and because of that we’re talking about a new contract. It is only a good thing that teams are chasing him, there isn’t anything negative in that. We always want to keep good players in our team, unless there are offers that you can’t turn down.
Swansea striker Wilfried Bony has said that he will talk with former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba about a few tips on beating his former club. Swansea will take on Chelsea at the liberty stadium this weekend knowing that they are undefeated in the last three matches against the blues at this ground. However, the weekend’s match will be extra tough given that Chelsea have title ambitions in mind. The blues, though, are likely to be tired after being involved in the midweek Champions League match against PSG when they had to put in a lot of effort to get back into the semifinals.
Bony has had a great first season in the Premier league after joining the club from Vitesse Arnhem for £ 12 million. Swansea manager Gary Monk recently compared Bony with former Chelsea great Drogba. Even though he is physically not up to the same height as Drogba, Monk says that Bony has all the attributes of the Ivory Coast international. Bony has himself stated that he is a friend of Drogba and that the two often talk with each other. Bony has already scored 20 goals in all competitions, but after just 12 goals in the league, the striker is targeting more in the remainder of the season.
“I have not spoken to him yet, but maybe tonight. We are playing against Chelsea, so he can tell me a few things. He is my friend so I will talk to him and he can give me some advice. As players you always want to play and do well against the big sides. I have got 12 league goals and it would be nice to reach 20 before the end of the season,” said Bony about the targets for the remainder of the season and also about his friendship with Drogba.
During his time in the Premier League, Didier Drogba made as many enemies as he made friends. However, there is no doubting the fact that the quality and standing of the English Premier League was far improved by his presence, and his absence will be keenly felt by the media men who work so tirelessly to promote the image of English football the world over.
Drogba could come across as slightly foolish at times, rolling around in an exaggerated manner to infuriate opposition fans, and failing to take a bad run of luck or perceived injustices on the chin, but sometimes with great players you just have to take the rough with the smooth.
Certainly, Arsenal fans will long remember the striker more for his outstanding goal-scoring record against them than his theatrical tendencies, while Liverpool fans will undoubtedly remember him for his habit to carry Chelsea in tight games when they were not really performing well.
With one strike in particular against Everton still up there as a contender for best Premier League goal of the modern era, Drogba proved during his time in this country that he was more than just a bully in the air. He was a man with a sublime touch and one capable of turning on the style, as well as knowing how to pull off simple finishes.
