Brazilian forward Willian wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge despite repeated interest from Spanish side Barcelona, as per report. The former Anzhi Makhachkala player has been at the club for six years, making over 300 appearances.

He can be considered one of the key players of the club in the past decade. He even played alongside Frank Lampard who now coaches him. Lampard has assured him of his spot in the team if he continues to perform despite the former Three Lion star inclined to field academy products.

Willian feels comfortable at the side, and with the growing profile at the Blues, he has decided to stick around and get a new deal rather join Barca or other interested sides. The 31-year old is not speaking to other clubs even as his deal is set to lapse next summer. He feels fine playing in the current setup, especially with the freedom he has to move around, even to the left.

Lampard earlier said he would not get involved in the player’s negotiation wages wise, leaving it up to the club to liaise with the player. Willian is aware this might be his last contract in the top flight. A three-year deal and wages top-up should seal the deal as the parties are comfortable.

Barcelona approached Chelsea for the player’s signature last summer after the World Cup but the deal was turned down. The La Liga champs are still open to a deal, but Willian has opted to remain at Chelsea.

Chelsea seemed to struggle initially under Lampard, but they have risen from the ashes like a phoenix. A Top Four spot is almost assured if they keep at it. The core of the Chelsea setup is youthful, talented and motivated. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Reece James, FikayoTomori, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and CallumHudson-Odoi have really helped Chelsea to an amazing run that could lead to something beautiful.
