Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Gonzalo Higuaín from Juventus on a temporary agreement. The Argentina international spent the first half of the ongoing campaign on loan with AC Milan but the contract was terminated after the marksman expressed the ambition to reunite with Maurizio Sarri at the Bridge.

“When the opportunity to join Chelsea presented itself I had to take it. It’s a team I’ve always liked that has a lot of history, a wonderful stadium and they play in the Premier League, a league I’ve always wanted to play in. I now hope I can give back that trust Chelsea have shown me out on the pitch. I can’t wait to start and I hope to adapt as soon as possible,” he told the club’s official website.

Higuaín had initially been linked with the Blues during the summer transfer window with Sarri tipped to pursue a number of former players. However, a deal could not materialise with the club setting plans to bolster other positions and this saw Higuaín make the move to the Rossonerion a season-long loan.

Nonetheless, the speculation linking him with the Blues did not seem to cease and he has now eventually made the switch to the west London club.Higuaín is widely expected to take up the centre-forward position with the Blues for the rest of the season and depending on his performances, the club may decide whether to extend his contract further.

Chelsea are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final on Thursday night and they have everything to play for after the 1-0 defeat at the Wembley Stadium earlier in the month. Higuaín was initially fancied to make his debut against Spurs but that has been ruled out with the Blues failing to register him as their player before the cut-off time on Wednesday.
